The book is like the spoon, scissors, the hammer, the wheel. Once invented, it cannot be improved. You cannot make a spoon that is better than a spoon... The book has been thoroughly tested, and its very hard to see how it could be improved on for its current purposes.

I think there are universal principles that we should want to understand, but that are not necessarily good for us. We could recognise universal propensities which current cultures cant fully eradicate, which we would want to eradicate if we could. Lets say, a tendency for tribal violence. Or racism.
